Sustainable Formulation & Additives Specialist (f/m/x) – Natural Polymers

Hamburg-Harburg (Neuland)
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your mission

We’re solving global plastic pollution – and you can be part of the solution!

With our groundbreaking technology, we transform agricultural plant residues into an innovative and environmentally friendly biomaterial – bio-based, plastic-free, and compostable. A material that leaves no harmful traces. Our goal is to replace as much conventional plastic as possible – and that’s where you come in.

As Sustainable Formulation & Additives Specialist (f/m/x) – Natural Polymers, you will play a key role in developing, managing, and documenting traceless’ innovative biomaterial formulations, enabling robust scale-up from R&D to industrial production. You’ll ensure our substances, additives, and processes meet technical, sustainability, and compliance standards – paving the way for the safe, efficient, and scalable use of traceless materials across applications.

Your responsibilities:
  • Maintain and update substance, additive, and formulation databases, defining acceptance criteria and reference values together with experts.
  • Drive additive and formulation discovery by identifying novel sustainable functional additives, evaluating their performance in traceless materials, and establishing screening workflows to accelerate innovation and material optimization.
  • Develop and manage processes for Substance Selection, including grouping by chemical properties and functionality.
  • Support formulation development from R&D to industrial scale, including screening strategies, DoE planning, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate approval processes for new substances, reviewing supplier documentation (TDS, SDS) and verifying compliance with safety and sustainability requirements.
  • Ensure smooth communication and data exchange between R&D, QA, and Supply Chain, supporting transfer of formulations from R&D to industrial scale.
  • Provide scientific and technical advice to internal teams and external partners on substance selection and formulation optimization.
  • Manage Product Development team’s documentation (SOPs, OCMs, SDS, TDS), ensuring accurate registration, coding, and version control.
You will spend your working days in an innovative work environment with start-up flair in our laboratory in Harburg, Hamburg.

Your profile

  • University degree in polymer science, material science, chemical engineering or similar with an applied research mindset.
  • You have 2+ years of experience in biopolymer-based product and features development.
  • You have 2+ years of experience in polymer or biopolymer formulation, additives, and material development.
  • Strong technical understanding of natural polymer structures and hands-on experience with polymer additive systems, formulation optimization, and process-feature interactions.
  • Hands-on mentality, solution-oriented mindset, detailed-focused, comfortable balancing technical depth with practical implementation.
  • Experience in documentation and data management (SOPs, specifications, regulatory documents) within an R&D or production setting.
